Turkey, officially the Republic of Türkiye, is a transcontinental country located in both Europe and Asia.

Turkey is located mainly on the Anatolian Peninsula in Western Asia, with a small portion on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is bordered by eight countries: Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, and Syria.

The country’s capital is Ankara, but its largest city and main financial centre is Istanbul. Turkey has been inhabited by various civilizations throughout its history, including the Hittites, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans.

Turkey is also a member of several international organizations, including NATO, the United Nations, and the G20.  Turkey is a regional power with a geopolitically significant strategic location and currently ranks the twentieth-largest in the world by nominal GDP and the eleventh-largest by PPP.
