Torrey Pines is a municipal facility and has two courses, the North and the South. The course is named after the Torrey Pine trees that are native to the area and are prominent throughout the course.

The course features bentgrass greens, Kikuyu fairways, and roughs, and is known for its challenging greens, tight fairways, and deep bunkers. It is considered one of the best public golf courses in the United States.

Torrey Pines Golf Course’s South Course was redesigned in 2001 by Rees Jones in preparation for the 2008 U.S. Open. It is now 7,698 yards with a par of 72.

The North and South courses are both 18-hole layouts that were designed by William F. Bell, and the South course is home to the annual Farmers Insurance Open, a PGA Tour event.
