The astute journalist died in her home in New York and while an exact cause of death was not stated, she did have some known health challenges in the past.
In May 2010, Walters revealed that she would be having open heart surgery to replace a faulty aortic valve.

This was after she had known for quite a while that she was suffering from aortic valve stenosis, even though she was symptom-free.
