Alvin Dark was the manager of the San Francisco Giants from 1961 through 1964. Alvin Ralph Dark, often known as “Blackie” and “The Swamp Fox,” was a professional baseball shortstop and manager in the United States.

Alvin was a three-time All-Star and a two-time World Series champion, once as a player (1954) and once as a manager (1974).

In 1961, Dark was named the team manager of the San Francisco Giants. The Giants, who were now based in San Francisco, enjoyed a winning record each of Dark’s four seasons with them and advanced to the World Series in 1962, where they were defeated by the New York Yankees in a seven-game classic.
