Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the toddler suffered long-term hunger and was found dead in an inflatable pool turned makeshift playpen at Johnson’s home.
The girl, according to Judd, was “bones and skin,” which he characterised as heartbreaking to witness. The girl, who was born on July 25, 2019, should have weighed 32 pounds at the time of her death, according to Judd.
In the two days preceding her death, both parents said they tried to feed the toddler, but she refused to eat and would “just take a few bits.”
