Just like any other celebrity, Michael Jackson was an avid pet lover and his taste was quite different from those who are into having dogs and cats. The celebrated “King of Pop” opted for a chimpanzee instead.

Michael acquired his pet chimpanzee which he named “Bubbles” for an amount of $65,000 from a Texas research facility in the 1980s. Interestingly enough, the two became quite the unique pair over the years.

Michael took Bubbles everywhere, including his Bad World Tour and the chimp even drank tea with the mayor of Osaka when they went to Japan.

The primate Bubbles used to be kept at the Jackson family’s Encino home until 1988 when he was moved to Jackson’s newly acquired Neverland Ranch.

It was reported that Bubbles had the liberty of sleeping in a crib in Jackson’s bedroom, ate candy in the movie theatre, ate at the dining table and even used Michael Jackson’s toilet despite the many photographs of him wearing a diaper.

Bubbles had become so attached to his owner such that he nearly committed suicide in 2003 after Michael was charged with child molestation but he was saved by medics.

The chimpanzee was later moved out of Neverland ranch earlier that year due to fears that he might cause to Jackson’s children, Prince, Paris and Michael Jr.

Bubbles – who is now 35 has been living at the Centre for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida since 2005.  He has, however, been active in making great artworks with his creative mind and five of his paintings got sold £577 ($750) each to raise cash for his ape sanctuary.

Here are some of his beautiful artworks:
