The club had to buy him because of a deal they made, and Chelsea has confirmed this. Galatasaray first paid Chelsea €3.58 million for Ziyech to play with them temporarily.

They agreed to pay an extra €2.85 million to keep him after this season. Ziyech, who is 31 years old, joined Chelsea in the 2020/2021 season for £33 million after they were allowed to buy players again.

The winger’s move to Galatasaray marks the end of his four-year contract at Stamford Bridge, where he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
During his time at Chelsea, Ziyech scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists in 107 appearances after joining from Ajax in a £33.6 million deal.
Ziyech has had an impressive loan spell, contributing eight goals and four assists in 21 appearances this term, including during Galatasaray’s Champions League campaign.
