A Three Men and a Baby reboot is coming to Disney+, and it sounds like it just found one third of its “men.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zac Efron has been cast in a remake of the 1987 box office hit that’s set to premiere on Disney’s streaming service.
While he’s confirmed to appear in the project, Efron’s role in the comedy reboot hasn’t been revealed, and we’re still waiting to hear about the other two men (and, of course, the baby). THR reports that the Disney+ version of Three Men and a Baby will be updated with a new script written by Will Reichel. Gordon Gray, who brought us The Rookie and Ben Affleck‘s The Way Back, is set to produce the upcoming project, but a director has not been named yet.
The original Three Men and a Baby film broke records with its release as the first live-action Disney film to make over $100 million domestically. The 1987 remake of a French story was directed by Leonard Nimoy and stars Ted Danson, Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg, who play New York bachelors who have to put their dad skills to the test when caring for an infant they find sitting on their doorstep one day. The popular comedy inspired a sequel, Three Men and a Little Lady, that premiered in 1990.
Efron is returning to his Disney roots with the upcoming film. The actor had a breakout year in 2006 with the release of the Disney Channel original movie High School Musical, which made him an international star. Efron continued to work with Disney for High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3. He later went on to star in films like 17 Again and Neighbors.
More recently, he starred as serial killer Ted Bundy in the indie hit Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and he currently has his own Netflix travel show, Down to Earth with Zac Efron, where he explores sustainability practices around the globe.
