Speaking at her school’s graduation ceremony, Nelson described the process of writing and publishing her memoir as deeply therapeutic.
In her conversation with Joy News, Nelson reflected on the lengthy journey she undertook to bring the book to fruition, dispelling the misconception that it was a project completed in a short span of time.
“It’s been a wonderful ride. It was something that I was working on for the longest time,” she explained. “That is what people don’t know, and they thought I woke up one day and used a week to write a book.”

Nelson emphasized that her book served as a therapeutic outlet for her, offering a way to address personal difficulties and unspoken challenges. “
We all have difficulties in our lives and things that we don’t talk to anybody about, and it’s been a big therapy for me to release the book. There is so much more I will want to share, but let’s see what happens,” she said.
In I Am Not Yvonne Nelson, Nelson reveals personal aspects of her life, including her struggle with not knowing her biological father, a man she had initially believed to be her father.
The memoir details her challenging childhood and the obstacles she overcame to achieve her current success.
