Xherdan Shaqiri has returned to his former side FC Basel to pen down a three-year contract with the Swiss Super League side.

The 32-year-old midfielder returns to the club where he began his career, after spending the last three seasons with Major League Soccer team Chicago Fire.
Xherdan Shaqiri’s contract with Chicago Fire was mutually terminated earlier this week, even though it was set to expire at the end of the 2024 MLS season.

The Switzerland international expressed his excitement about returning to Basel, reflecting on his deep connection with the club and his hometown.
Xherdan Shaqiri was exceptional during his time at FC Basel before joining Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga in 2012.
Shaqiri, who has also played for Liverpool and Stoke City in the Premier League, is eager to contribute to Basel’s success and reunite with the fans at the club’s home ground, St. Jakob-Park.
