He has confirmed that he will stick with Bayer Leverkusen instead of seeking managerial roles elsewhere. This news disappoints both Liverpool and Bayern Munich, who had eyed Alonso as a potential manager.
Liverpool, especially after Jurgen Klopp’s departure announcement, saw Alonso as a candidate. But he has shown no interest in leaving Bayer Leverkusen.
Similarly, Bayern Munich, in search of Thomas Tuchel’s successor, also considered Alonso. However, with Alonso staying put, both clubs need to look for other options.

Alonso affirmed his decision in a press conference, stating that after reflecting, he believes Leverkusen is where he belongs.
Since Alonso took over in 2022, Leverkusen has undergone a remarkable turnaround, rising from relegation struggles to Bundesliga table-toppers.
Their strong performance extends to the Europa League, where they’ve reached the quarter-finals for the second year running.
Alonso’s choice is a significant turn in managerial discussions, pushing Liverpool and Bayern Munich to rethink their strategies. As Leverkusen thrives under Alonso, football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the rest of their season.
