Artemis 1 is a planned Moon-orbiting mission and the first spaceflight in NASA’s Artemis programme.

Artemis 1 has no crew. However, there will be a lot of technology gathering data during the 1.3 million-mile mission that will take the spacecraft as far as 280,000 miles away from Earth before circling the moon and returning home.
Because it has been nearly 50 years since humans set foot on the moon, the test flight will also serve as a trial run for the new rocket and spacecraft before a crewed flight.

The only “crew members” aboard Orion for Monday’s debut are mannequins used to test Nasa’s next-generation spacesuits and radiation levels, as well as a soft Snoopy toy floating around the capsule to demonstrate zero gravity.
Artemis 1 will last for 42-days. Artemis I test mission will take the Orion vehicle 40,000 miles past the far side of the moon, departing from the same facility that hosted the Apollo lunar missions half a century ago.
