Sweetest Day was originally observed in Cleveland in 1922, when numerous candy firms handed over 20,000 boxes of sweets to the city’s most vulnerable, including “newsboys, orphans, old persons, and the impoverished,” according to National Today.

The concept eventually extended from Cleveland to the whole of Ohio, as well as a few other states.
Sweetest Day was founded by Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland candy industry employee who wished to provide happiness to the lives of individuals who were frequently overlooked, according to Hallmark.

The National Confectioners Association attempted to rank Sweetest Day alongside other widely recognized holidays such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Valentine’s Day in 1937, but the initiative failed.

Sweetest Day is predominantly observed in the Midwest, parts of the Northeast, and Florida in the United States. Cleveland and Detroit are the two cities where it is most popular.
On the third Saturday in October, the yearly festival is commemorated as an opportunity to share romantic actions, sentiments, acts of charity, and goodwill.
This year’s date is October 16th.
