“Dad’s Army” is called so because it revolves around a fictional Home Guard platoon during World War II comprised mainly of older men who were ineligible for military service in the regular armed forces.

The term “Dad’s Army” is a colloquialism that reflects the idea that the members of the platoon, despite their age and lack of military experience, are akin to a group of fathers or paternal figures banding together to defend their country. The show humorously portrays the Home Guard as a group of well-meaning but often bumbling individuals who are determined to contribute to the war effort in any way they can, despite their limitations.
