Princess Diana, the first wife of Prince Charles, now King Charles, got the title Princess of Wales when she got married to King Charles who was then the Princess of Wales. Even though she died tragically and King Charles went ahead to marry a new woman called Camilla, the title Princess of Wales has been kept to her alone out of respect.

Why was Diana called Princess of Wales after divorce?

The late Queen Elizabeth, The Prince [now King Charles III], and the Princess of Wales, Princess Diana collectively agreed that the Princess was to be known after the divorce as Diana, Princess of Wales without the style of ‘Her Royal Highness’. This is because the Princess was given the title ‘Her Royal Highness’ on marriage as she was married to the Prince by then.
