Albert was born in the Saxon duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld to a family connected to many of Europe’s ruling monarchs.

Why is a Prince Albert called a Prince Albert?

It is one of the commonest genital piercings in men. The name “Prince Albert” for this piercing comes from the belief that Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert had this penile piercing.

Although there is no conclusive proof, it was reported in contemporary newspapers that Prince Albert liked the idea and so adopted the custom himself.

What happened when Prince Albert died?

For more than a century, Prince Albert’s demise was attributed to typhoid fever.

More recently, however, a parade of doctors and armchair pathologists have argued that it was something more than an infection that carted the prince away.

Though Albert’s official cause of death was listed as typhoid fever, modern experts have continued to debate that diagnosis.
