The baby, who is referred to as BB (Bridge Baby), is a “bridge” between the world of the living and the afterlife.

BB is used to detect and combat BTs (Beached Things), mysterious creatures that roam the world of Death Stranding and are connected to the afterlife. BB is able to sense the presence of BTs and can alert Sam to their presence, helping him to avoid or defeat them.

BB also serves as a source of comfort and support for Sam, who is often isolated and alone in the desolate world of Death Stranding. The baby represents the importance of human connection and the value of life, themes that are central to the game’s narrative.

Death Stranding, a video game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, was released in November 2019 for the PlayStation 4.
