After tweeting that both SpaceX and automaker Tesla have been “facing considerable recent inflation pressure in raw materials & logistics,” SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced the double-digit price increases.
According to a copy of the email obtained by CNBC, SpaceX informed Starlink customers and depositors of the higher prices on Tuesday. The Starlink email stated that the revisions were made “solely to keep up with rising inflation.”

Starlink’s base monthly service fee will rise by 11% on May 21 to $110 from $99 per month. Users who paid a deposit but are on SpaceX’s waiting list for service will see a 10% price increase on the base Starlink gear, from $499 to $549.

The cost of the base hardware was raised by 20% for fresh orders, to $599 from $499.
Users who want a refund due to the price increases can discontinue service without being charged, but they won’t get one unless they recently received the Starlink gear. If a customer decides not to continue after the first year of service, SpaceX will partially return their money, up to $200.
Why does Starlink cost so much?
SpaceX is raising prices for all of its products and services, including rocket launches and Starlink satellite internet, in response to “excessive levels of inflation.”
Price hikes range from up to 20% for new Starlink technology to 8% for launches utilizing the company’s Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets.
Is Starlink worth buying?
Starlink may be too expensive for some at $110 per month plus a $599 equipment fee. However, when compared to other satellite internet providers, it provides excellent value for money.
