Hepburn graduated from university intending to become an actor. The day following graduation, she went to Baltimore to meet Edwin H. Knopf, the owner of a successful stock theatre. Knopf was impressed by her enthusiasm and placed Hepburn in his current play, The Czarina.

In May 2003, Hepburn’s neck was revealed to have an aggressive malignancy. She died of cardiac arrest on June 29, 2003, at the Hepburn family home in Fenwick, Connecticut, after it was decided not to intervene medically.

Katherine Hepburn never had children. She was temporarily married but has since solely had affairs, the most prominent of which was with Spencer Tracy, who is married. She felt she would have been a terrible mother because she was openly “selfish.” She was committed to her career.
