  1. Creative Differences: As the members of the group matured, they naturally began to develop their artistic interests and styles. This led to conflicts over creative direction and musical preferences within the group.
  2. Solo Aspirations: Michael Jackson, in particular, had ambitions for a successful solo career beyond his work with the Jackson 5. His immense talent and star quality made him a standout member of the group, and he eventually emerged as a global solo superstar.
  3. Contractual Issues: The Jackson 5’s contract with Motown Records was a source of contention. The group felt that they were not receiving fair compensation for their work and sought greater creative control over their music. This led to disputes with the label and ultimately contributed to their decision to leave Motown.
  4. Growth and Change: Like all families, the members of the Jackson 5 experienced personal growth and change over the years. As they matured, their priorities shifted, leading some members to pursue different career paths and interests outside of the group.
  5. External Pressures: The intense public scrutiny and pressure of fame took a toll on the members of the Jackson 5. This, combined with the demands of their hectic touring and recording schedules, added strain to their relationships and contributed to the decision to disband.

Who Left the Jackson 5 First?

The first member to leave the Jackson 5 was Jermaine Jackson. In 1975, the group left Motown Records for Epic Records, but Jermaine decided to stay with Motown due to his marriage to Hazel Gordy, the daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy. Randy Jackson, Jermaine’s younger brother, replaced him in the group, marking the beginning of changes in the lineup of the Jackson 5.
