Robert Alden Struthers was the father of an American actress and activist, Sally Struthers.

Robert Alden Struthers was a Surgeon. He served as an associate medical director at the Tongue Point Job Corps Center in Oregon.

Born on April 21, 1917 in Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States, Robert was the son of the late Gavin Hamilton Struthers(1894-1955) and Marietta J. Ainsworth(1895-1955).

He graduated from the University of Oregon and the University of Vermont Medical School. Robert was reportedly a captain in the Army Air Force Medical Corps amid World War II.

Prior to joining the Tongue Point staff in April 1967, Robert practiced medicine in Portland, and for one year in Alaska.

He married the late Margaret Caroline Jernes Struthers in 1940 and they had two daughters; Sally Struthers and Sue Struthers.

Robert reportedly abandoned the family when Sally was about ten years old, leaving Margaret to single-handedly raise the kids.

Following his divorce from Margaret, he married Phyllis Parker on December 26, 1964.

Robert Alden Struthers died on May 24, 1968, at age 51 in Astoria, Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. He was interred at Willamette National Cemetery Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, United States.
