Joe Giella, one of the last great Silver Age comic book illustrators, died at the age of 94. He was best known for his work on Batman, Flash, and Green Lantern.

Giella, an Astoria native, studied at several art institutions before beginning his career as a professional comic book illustrator for Hillman Magazines in 1946.
He then found work at Marvel Comics, which was then known as Timely Comics, and quickly rose to the position of staff artist.

He worked on backgrounds, edits, retouches, and other similar tasks up until roughly 1948 when he began to specialize in inking.

Giella, The Silver Age of Comic Books, which historians and fans refer to as the years between the late 1950s and the early 1960s, was the time period in which American comic book artist, born June 27, 1928, died on March 21, 2023.
Giella has been referred to be “one of the creators identified with the Silver Age of Comics” due to his extensive and productive career.
