Jane Seymour was Henry the VIII’s favourite wife. Henry waited only 11 days after the death of his second wife Anne before marrying his third and most beloved wife, Jane Seymour

According to Historic Royal Palaces, Henry’s courting of Jane began as early as 1534, and the King wrote and sent her gifts the next year. Given how soon after the pair married, the link between the despotic monarch and his soon-to-be wife must have been established by the time Anne was murdered.

The following year, Jane fulfilled her duty and gave birth to Henry’s son, Prince Edward, at Hampton Court Palace. Jane, like so many other women of her era, had a difficult pregnancy and experienced post-natal difficulties.
Jane died at the palace two weeks after fulfilling her husband’s greatest desire; she was just 28 years old. She was buried in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on November 12, and she was the only one of Henry’s six wives to have a queen’s funeral.
