Britain’s current prime minister, Liz Truss has become the shortest-serving prime minister after she reportedly resigned from her position after just 44 days in office. She is the third Prime Minister this year (2022). She quickly lost favor with her fellow Conservative Party members. Even though she has announced her resignation, she will remain in office until a new Conservative Party leader is chosen through a leadership contest which is expected to conclude on October 28, 2022.

The second shortest-serving UK Prime Minister was George Canning who served for only 119 days because he died suddenly in April 1827.
Truss’ administration has seen some of the worst economic happenings in the United Kingdom. The British Pound crashed, the Queen of England died, she also had the lowest personal approval rating of -47, etc. She sacked the Minister of Finance, Kwasi Kwarteng after she was forced to scrap her plans for a mini-budget tax cut.
“I have spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” said during her speech.
