Who is Marc Metrick, CEO of Saks Fifth Avenue?

Marc J. Metrick, the chief executive at Saks, brings over 25 years of industry experience, with significant roles at Saks Fifth Avenue and Hudson’s Bay Company.

He studied Business Administration and Management at Boston University before joining Saks’s executive training program in 1995. Over the next 15 years, he held various senior leadership roles, eventually becoming chief strategy officer.

In April 2012, Metrick joined Hudson’s Bay Company as chief marketing officer and executive vice president, managing marketing and digital commerce.

In November 2013, he became the chief administrative officer, playing a key role in Hudson’s Bay’s $2.9 billion acquisition of Saks. By 2015, he was promoted to president of Saks Fifth Avenue.

Metrick’s most notable achievement came in March 2021 when he became the chief executive of Saks.

He spearheaded the separation of Saks Fifth Avenue stores from its digital business, securing a $500 million investment from Insight Partners and valuing the e-commerce entity at $2 billion.

This strategic move allowed both the physical and digital segments to thrive independently while maintaining a seamless customer experience.

Under Metrick’s leadership, Saks has continued to grow its brand portfolio, adding nearly 450 new brands in 2021 and another 400 by September 2022.

Metrick is also active in the broader retail community, serving on the executive committee of the National Retail Federation’s Board of Directors and the advisory board of the Jay H. Baker Retailing Center at The Wharton School.
