Who is Jasmine Moore? The First American Woman To Earn An Olympic Medal In The Triple Jump

Jasmine Moore, born on May 1, 2001, is an exceptional American athlete who made history at the 2024 Summer Olympics by winning the bronze medal in the triple jump event.

Her journey to this historic achievement is a testament to her dedication, hard work, and remarkable talent.

Hailing from Grand Prairie, Texas, Moore is a standout athlete and a student at the University of Georgia. She chose Georgia to train under Petros Kyprianou and drew inspiration from the success of Keturah Orji, another accomplished triple jumper.

Moore’s athletic prowess was evident early on, as she was named the 2019 Gatorade Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

Moore’s career has been marked by significant milestones. In 2022, she became the first American woman to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in both the long jump and the triple jump, showcasing her versatility and skill in multiple events.

In 2021, Moore won the triple jump at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a personal-best and wind-legal jump of 14.39 meters (47 feet 3 inches), meeting the Olympic standard for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics and ranking in the top ten in the world for the year.

At the same event, she also placed third in the long jump with a distance of 6.64 meters (21 feet 9 inches).

Her performance at the NCAA Championships in June 2021 further highlighted her talent, as she won bronze in the long jump with a jump of 6.65 meters (21 feet 10 inches) and silver in the triple jump with a leap of 14.13 meters (46 feet 4 inches).

Moore’s personal best long jump of 6.83 meters (22 feet 5 inches), recorded in Athens, Georgia, on April 9, 2021, met the qualifying standard for the Olympic Games and ranked as the sixth highest in the world for the year.

This achievement also placed her in the top 10 collegiate distances of all time. Her third-place finish in the triple jump at the US Olympic Trials secured her spot at the 2020 Summer Games, marking her first Olympic appearance.

In 2023, Moore’s outstanding achievements continued as she won the Honda Sports Award in the sport of track and field, following her seventh career NCAA individual title and setting an NCAA record in the triple jump at 48’6″.

That same year, she announced her decision to forego her remaining collegiate eligibility and signed with Puma. Moore represented the United States at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where she qualified fifth and finished tenth overall.

At the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Moore placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.15 meters.

Her performance at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, was equally impressive, as she won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump with a jump of 6.98 meters.
