While Emily has gained recognition as a key player for the United States Women’s National Team and the NJ/NY Gotham FC, Emma chose a different path after their shared early passion for soccer.
Born just 45 minutes after Emily, the sisters played together from their youth into high school, demonstrating remarkable chemistry on the field.
Despite this, Emma’s soccer journey did not reach the professional stage like her sister’s.
Emily Sonnett has made a significant mark in the sport. She has played for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club NJ/NY Gotham FC and has represented the United States national team in various positions, including center back, full back, and defensive midfielder.

Emily’s achievements include two NWSL Championships, won with the Thorns in 2017 and the Washington Spirit in 2021.
Internationally, she was part of the U.S. team that secured the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, earned bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and clinched gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She has also celebrated seven victories in the SheBelieves Cup. Despite their different paths, Emma’s early support and partnership with Emily remain a significant part of their shared story.
