Who Is Courtney Wayment’s Coach, Diljeet Taylor?

Diljeet Dosanjh Taylor made a significant impact in the world of distance running, starting from her days as a student-athlete at Cal State Stanislaus from 2000 to 2003.

During her collegiate career, she was a three-time All-American in both outdoor and indoor track. In 2002, she won the CCAA Championship in the 1500-meter run and earned five All-CCAA titles in the 800 and 1500 meters.

That same year, she was named Stan State Female Athlete of the Year and set a school record in the indoor 800 meters, a record she still holds. She also ranks in the top ten for the 800, 1500, and 3000-meter outdoor track events.

Transitioning from athlete to coach, Diljeet began her coaching career at Cal State Stanislaus in 2007. Over nearly a decade, she coached 16 All-Americans, including 2014 National Champion Courtney Anderson and runner-up Marina Vorderbruegge in the 1500-meter run.

Under her guidance, 11 Warriors became CCAA Track Champions in distance events. Her women’s cross-country team competed in the NCAA Championships in 2013, and her 2012 team achieved a program-best fourth place at the NCAA West Regionals.

In 2016, Diljeet joined BYU as the Head Women’s Cross Country Coach and Associate Director of Track and Field. Her tenure at BYU has been marked by remarkable achievements. She has coached 27 All-Americans and led the team to an NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country National Championship in the 2020-21 season.

Her athletes have won numerous national titles, including Courtney Wayment in the steeplechase and 5000 meters in 2022, and Anna Camp-Bennett in the 1500 meters in 2021.

Additionally, her teams have consistently finished in the top ten at NCAA Championships and secured several conference championships.

Diljeet has also guided athletes to the highest levels of competition. In 2024, she coached BYU alum Courtney Wayment and Whittni Morgan to spots on Team USA for the Paris Olympic Games. She also coached seven athletes at the 2024 USATF Olympic Trials.

Diljeet’s coaching excellence has been recognized with several prestigious awards. She was named USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2020-21 and has been honored multiple times as the Mountain Region Women’s Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2023, she was named Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year.

Diljeet Taylor is married to Ira Taylor, a former basketball player at Cal State Stanislaus. The couple has two children, Taj and Avi. Diljeet holds a B.A. from Cal State Stanislaus, where she was also recognized as a Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2002.
