Austin Barnes has two brothers Dylan Barnes and Griffin Barnes.

His younger brother, Griffin Barnes, played catcher for Grand Canyon University, where he Majored in Business Management, graduating in 2018.

Following graduating from GCU, Barnes signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Angels organization in June 2018. He spent time with the Orem Owlz and AZL Angels at the rookie-ball level that summer.
