American producer, screenwriter, and television executive Janice Burgess worked for Nickelodeon. She wrote and served as story editor for Nickelodeon’s Winx Club reboot in addition to creating the Nick Jr. series The Backyardigans. The Nickelodeon Animation Studio produced both programs.

During her time in college, Burgess pursued a different job since she did not love traveling “in art circles with collectors and high society,” according to an interview with Investor’s Business Daily.
Throughout all four of The Backyardigans’ seasons, Janice Burgess was the show’s executive producer. Because Burgess wanted to adapt high-stakes stories for a younger audience, she looked to action movies for inspiration when creating episodes of the program.
