American Steve Garvey, a former professional baseball player, is a candidate in the California United States Senate race scheduled for 2024. From 1969 to 1987, he was a first baseman in Major League Baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

In the first round of the 1968 MLB draft, Garvey was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers. At 20, he made his Major League debut on September 1, 1969.
Garvey declared his candidacy as a Republican for the California Senate seat in 2024 on October 10, 2023. In the partial term special election primary to succeed Laphonza Butler and take over Dianne Feinstein’s vacant seat, Garvey garnered the most votes.
