Veeck’s passion for baseball remained strong even at the age of 61. Within two years, Veeck had transformed the White Sox into Chicago’s must-see entertainment — all while creating a winning team on the field.

When did Bill Veeck own the White Sox?

Veeck and his associates bought the Chicago White Sox in 1958. The $300,000 “exploding scoreboard” with rockets and revolving pinwheels at Comiskey Park was one of his most notable contributions to the franchise. Veeck owned the squad until 1961 when he sold it owing to health concerns.
