“Lollipop” is Lil Wayne’s and Static Major’s most successful single to date, staying at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for five non-consecutive weeks. Static Major, who died over 2 weeks after the single’s release, led to the song ranking eighth to hit number one after a credited artist’s death.

The single was digitally released on March 13, 2008.

Like most Lil Wayne tracks, “Lollipop” heavily relies on the Auto-Tune vocal effect.

With various versions of the song produced, the single received a 5x Platinum certification by the RIAA for hitting a whopping five million unit-sale in the United States only, earning the number spot on the top hip-hop songs of 2008 by MTV.

An official music video was produced for “Lollipop”, directed by Gil Green and filmed in Las Vegas at Gavin Maloof’s residence on December 31, 2007. The video received a premiere via BET’s Access Granted on March 12, 2008. Once again, the music video reached number one on TRL in April on MTV.

The video went on to become the most-viewed video on Music Choice’s video-on-demand service. Check out the music video for “Lollipop” here.
