John Frank Tesh was born on July 9, 1952, in Garden City, New York, on Long Island, to Mildred (Bunny), a nurse, and John F. Tesh, a textile chemist. He is an American pianist and pop music composer, as well as a radio host and television presenter.

In 1970, he graduated from Garden City High School. He began playing the piano and trumpet when he was six years old, and in high school, he was named to the New York State Symphonic Orchestra while also playing the organ in a rock band.
Tesh attended North Carolina State University and majored in communications and music. He also played varsity lacrosse and soccer as a “walk on.”
