According to US Space Command, which is tracking the rocket’s trajectory, the remnants are expected to fall to Earth early next week.

The Wentian laboratory module was successfully docked with China’s orbital outpost after the 23-ton Long March 5B rocket took off from Hainan Island at 2:22 p.m. local time Sunday, July 24. 2022.

According to American experts, the rocket’s entire main-core stage, which is 100 feet (30 metres) long and weighs 22 tonnes (48,500 pounds), has already reached low orbit and is expected to tumble back towards Earth once atmospheric friction drags it downward.

The rocket body will eventually disintegrate as it plunges through the atmosphere, but it is large enough that numerous chunks will likely survive a fiery re-entry to rain debris over a 2,000km (1,240 miles) long by 70km (44 miles) wide area

This is the third time the country has been accused of failing to properly handle space debris from its rocket stage.
