Kim Il-Sung was the President of North Korea before he died. He died of a sudden heart attack early in the morning on July 8, 1994. He was the ruler of the country from 1948 until he died in 1994. His death was not announced until 34 hours later, due to the rule of respecting the traditional Confucian mourning period. The announcement was made live over Korean Central Television at noon. The channel’s news presenter, Chon Hyong-kyu made the announcement on July 9, 1994.
