UB40 is an English reggae and pop band that was formed in December 1978 in Birmingham, England.

UB40 members were from Birmingham and were all friends who knew each other from various schools and colleges in the area.
UB40 started advertising before they could even purchase an instrument. Ali Campbell and Brian Travers commenced the advert.

UB40 has achieved international success with more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart. UB40 have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times. UB40 in 1984 was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group.

UB40 have sold over 70 million records worldwide. A member of the group, Terence Wilson who parted ways with the band died in November 2021.

What Does UB40 Stand For?
The name ‘UB40’ stands for Unemployment Benefit, Form 40. The band named themselves after the paper form issued by the UK government’s Department of Employment for claiming the dole.
