Since its foundation in 1959, the Hunt family has owned the Chiefs. Clark Hunt, Lamar Hunt’s son, became the Chiefs’ chairman in 2005. Lamar’s second wife, Norma, and Clark’s siblings, Sharron, Lamar Jr., and Daniel, all gained ownership stakes in the team when he died in 2006.

Clark was named “de facto owner,” meaning he would represent the franchise at all owners’ meetings.

Lamar Hunt founded the Kansas City Wizards, now known as Sporting Kansas City, the Columbus Crew, and FC Dallas, all of which are currently part of Major League Soccer.

FC Dallas is still owned by Clark, although the other two franchises have been sold. Clark was also a crucial figure in the formation of Major League Soccer.

Following the resignation of long-time executive Carl Peterson, Clark Hunt has been the Chiefs’ CEO since 2010. The Chiefs have made nine playoff appearances since Clark joined the team in 2005. Six of those appearances have come in a row, dating back to 2015.
