Virginia Halas McCaskey, born January 5, 1923, is the majority owner of the National Football League’s Chicago Bears.

Virginia Halas McCaskey is the eldest child of Chicago Bears coach and owner George Halas, who died in 1983 and bequeathed the team to his daughter, and Minnie Bushing Halas.

Virginia Halas McCaskey became the oldest owner in the NFL and all major league sports in the United States with the death of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson in March 2014.

Within the Bears organization, her formal title is secretary of the board of directors.

Virginia Halas McCaskey is, however, given the authority to speak for the interests of her children and grandchildren, essentially granting her 80% ownership of the team.

What is Virginia Halas McCaskey’s Family Tree

Virginia McCaskey, in reality, had ten children. Her eldest son died in 2011 at the age of 66, but many are still connected with the team in some capacity.

Her son Michael McCaskey was President and CEO of the team from 1983 (after Virginia’s father George Halas died) until 2011 when his brother George and Ted Phillips took over control.

Virginia McCaskey has 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren in addition to her children.
