Alex Moreno was notably absent from Aston Villa’s squad in their recent Saturday Night Football victory against West Ham in their first game in the 2024/2025 Premier League.
Unai Emery explained the decision, stating, “When we signed Maatsen, we were speaking with different players.

One of them [Moreno or Lucas Digne] we could keep to be strong in this position, and Moreno is the player close to leaving.”
Aston Villa started the match with Lucas Digne at left-back and introduced new signing Ian Maatsen in the second half of the game.
Unai Emery is confident that the team will remain strong in the left-back position, despite Moreno’s imminent departure. Alex Moreno has reportedly attracted a number of teams in the Premier League and might join one soon.
