Born on 19 April 1954, Trevor John Francis played for several clubs in England, the United States, Italy, Scotland, and Australia.
He became Britain’s first £1 million player in 1979, following his transfer from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest.
In the same year (1979), he scored the winning goal for Forest in the European Cup final against Malmö. In 1980, he won the European Cup again with Nottingham Forest.

Francis was educated at Plymouth’s Public Secondary School for Boys where his talent emerged. A forward, Francis was very agile and skillful and he joined Birmingham City as a schoolboy.
Francis’ talent was not in doubt and he made his debut for Birmingham City’s first team in 1970, aged just 16.
Before turning 17 years old, Francis scored four goals in a match against Bolton Wanderers. He ended his first season with 15 goals from just 22 games.
He went on to play for several clubs, including Detroit Express, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Sampdoria, Atalanta, Rangers, Queens Park Rangers, and Sheffield Wednesday.
At international level, he played for England 52 times between 1976 and 1986, scoring 12 goals, and played at the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
Francis was a football manager from 1988 and 2003, most notably with Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City. His last management position was with Crystal Palace, where he departed in 2003.
