He was born on July 3, 1962, in the city of Syracuse in New York to Mary Lee Pfeiffer and Thomas Cruise Mapother III, both of blessed memory. He’s the brother of 3 sisters: Lee-Ann Mapother DeVette, Marian Mapother Henry and Cass Mapother, and also the cousin of American actor William Reibert Mapother Jr.

Tom began his career as an actor in New York shortly after high school. Following his debut in the 1981 film Endless Love, he landed several acting roles and eventually rose to stardom after starring in Paul Brickman’s 1983 hit, Risky Business and Tony Scott’s 1986 success, Top Gun. He made significant appearances in subsequent movies including The Color of Money(1986), Cocktail(1988) and Rainman(1988). He is equally the co-founder of Cruise/Wagner productions and made his production debut in the 1996 thriller, Mission: Impossible.

After barely 3 years of marriage, the couple divorced on February 4, 1990.
