Tiwa Savage, the Nigerian singer and actress, recently opened up about the discrimination she faced early in her career due to her fashion choices and musical style. In an interview with BET Talks, Tiwa Savage, who has recently ventured into film with her debut feature Water & Garri, shared her journey from music to movies and the challenges she encountered along the way.

Speaking with host Unique Chapman, Tiwa Savage recalled facing significant criticism in the Nigerian music industry because of her sensual dress and style.

“I used to be heavily criticised, had my songs banned on terrestrial stations, and was even stopped from performing because of my risqué dress and sensual music,” she revealed.
Savage explained that her fashion and musical expressions were often deemed too provocative, leading to several instances where she was prevented from performing.
Despite these challenges, Tiwa Savage persevered and continued to push boundaries, ultimately becoming one of Africa’s most influential music icons. She also noted that many other female artists have experienced similar struggles.
“I’ve heard multiple stories from female artists who passed through similar experiences,” she added,
