Thomas Bach, born on December 29, 1953, is a prominent German lawyer and former foil fencer who has been the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2013.

He is the first Olympic champion to hold this position. Bach’s early life was spent in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany, and he completed his legal education at the University of Würzburg.
As a fencer, Bach achieved notable success, including winning a gold medal in the foil team event at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
His career in fencing also includes multiple team medals at the World Fencing Championships and national titles.
Before becoming IOC President, Bach served as the President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and was involved in Munich’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
