Ted Blunt: Former Wilmington City Council President Dies at 80

American politician, professor, and athlete Theodore Blunt During his sixteen years as a Wilmington District Councilman and his eight years as city council president in Delaware, Blunt had a distinguished political career. Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester’s father was him.

Blunt’s sporting accomplishments in high school included being named to both the Markward Club’s Public League’s Most Valuable Player in Basketball his senior year and being named to All Public Teams in both soccer and basketball.

Blunt gave WSSU financial support as well as his services throughout the years. In keeping with his emphasis on learning and giving back, Blunt paid back his four-year scholarship to his alma mater in full in 2010.

Blunt, who was 80 years old, passed away on January 11, 2024.

Blunt was 80 years old. “It is with a heavy heart that the Blunt family announces the passing of former Wilmington City Council President Ted Blunt,” the statement reads.

“Mr. Blunt, aged 80, was at home, surrounded by love, and passed peacefully during the late evening hours of January 11th.”
