Scottish newsreader and continuity announcer Susan Scott Rae, born 2 June 1956, may be heard on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, and BBC Radio 4 Extra.

Rae studied English at Edinburgh University after being born and reared in Dundee, Scotland.
Before her final exams, she graduated from the university and started working for Dundee’s D. C. Thomson newspapers before joining BBC Radio Aberdeen.

She stayed there for three years before moving to London to work as a continuity announcer and newsreader for BBC Radio 4 in the early 1980s.

The reception to her voice on Radio 4 then was unfavorable, and some listeners thought the BBC’s dedication to precise pronunciation was waning.
She transitioned to daytime television in the 1980s, co-presenting Open Air, and kept doing voiceover work when the program ended.
In about 2000, Rae started working for the BBC World Service. In 2003, she went back to BBC Radio 4.
