Former professional baseball player Steven Patrick Garvey is running for the California Senate seat in the upcoming 2024 election. From 1969 to 1987, he was a first baseman in Major League Baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

Steve Garvey has won four Gold Gloves and was an MLB All-Star ten times. He is the only player in baseball history to have an error-free season at first base and he currently holds the record for the greatest lifetime fielding % by a first baseman.
Garvey declared in October 2023 that he would run as a Republican from California in the 2024 election for the U.S. Senate, with a term beginning in January 2025.
