The National Identification Authority (NIA) Division of the Public Services Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana has formally petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to dismiss Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah from his role as the Executive Secretary of NIA.

In a petition dated July 1, the division cited unanimous support from nearly all NIA staff members in their decision to seek Prof. Attafuah’s removal.

The petition, signed by 920 employees, outlines a series of grievances against Prof. Attafuah’s leadership.

“The staff and union’s decision to petition your high office for the removal of Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah is grounded on unfair labour practices, violations of the labour laws and Human Resource Manual and Policy Framework for Ghana Public Services, breaches of SSNIT law, poor corporate governance, selective and administrative injustice in staff recruitment, placement, and promotion, and lack of innovative management ideas,” the petition stated.

Highlighting concerns about potential harm to the authority’s reputation if Prof. Attafuah continues in his role, the division stressed that trust in his leadership has severely eroded.

“His staff have completely lost confidence in his administration and are no longer able to work with him in a trustworthy manner,” the petition emphasized.

The petitioners argued that removing Prof. Attafuah would not only restore staff confidence but also enhance the NIA’s standing and operational effectiveness.

“We firmly believe that his removal would rebuild staff confidence and restore the authority’s reputation,” the petition concluded.
