Six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the tragic killing of South African footballer Luke Fleurs.

The 24-year-old player for Kaizer Chiefs met his untimely demise in a car-jacking incident at a petrol station in Johannesburg on April 3, 2024.
According to police reports, the arrests were made in Soweto on the morning of April 10. Authorities suspect the detained individuals to be part of a larger syndicate responsible for car hijackings in the Gauteng province.
Investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement actively pursuing additional suspects. The footballer’s vehicle, which had been stripped, was recovered by authorities on Monday, April 8 2024

Fleurs was attacked while waiting at the petrol station, where unidentified assailants ordered him out of his vehicle before fatally shooting him in the upper body.
Kaizer Chiefs, a revered football club in South Africa with 12 league titles to its name, mourned the loss of Fleurs, describing his death as “tragic.” Fleurs had joined the club in the previous year, having previously played for SuperSport United.
The talented athlete, who had represented South Africa in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as part of the Under-23 team, received condolences from Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa, who lamented another life lost to violent crime.
The suspects are slated to appear in court on Friday, April 12, 2024.
