Australian singer Firerose has brought forward allegations of severe verbal, emotional, and psychological mistreatment by her soon-to-be ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus, coinciding with his divorce filing just before her scheduled preventive double mastectomy surgery.

In legal documents submitted in Tennessee, Firerose, 36, detailed the tumultuous end to her marriage with 62-year-old Cyrus. Diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation, which heightens her risk of breast cancer, Firerose was advised by doctors to have the surgery after a March MRI.

As the surgery date neared, Firerose claimed their home life turned chaotic with Cyrus verbally attacking her and threatening to evict her and proceed with a divorce. She described living in fear of Cyrus, feeling trapped in an “emotional and psychological prison,” and worried he might disrupt her surgery or recovery.

The day before her operation, Firerose was unexpectedly served with divorce papers. She also accused Cyrus’s relatives of trying to force her out of their shared home, despite previously offering to assist with her post-surgery care.

Following their October 2023 marriage, Cyrus had agreed to cover Firerose’s medical expenses. However, on the day of her surgery, she found herself in distress, searching for a new place to live.

Firerose further accused Cyrus of substance abuse issues that contribute to his unpredictable behavior. Cyrus filed for divorce on May 23, citing irreconcilable differences and alleged fraud by Firerose. In turn, she denied any wrongdoing and claimed feeling unsafe around him.

Cyrus also sought a restraining order to prevent Firerose from using his credit cards, alleging unauthorized spending. Firerose countered that she had been using his card for two years without issue and that she was entitled to maintain the lifestyle they had during their marriage.
